It is estimated that banks and related financial firms which employ 1.7 % of the total number of employees create 4.5 % of gross value added in Croatia, which only represents the direct measurable developmental impact. The indirect effects are much higher. The above average productivity in banking is directly connected to the fact that the workforce employed in banking are largely better educated, and that their salaries are 50 % above average in a particular economy. The paid-out dividend is declining in relative terms, so that the ratio of gross value added to a paid-out unit of dividend is about ten.
